Larni is one of our Personal Training favourites and she has done an amazing job so far on her Health and Fitness journey with JOLT FItness.

Larni has lost over 8kg and over 46cm from all over her body in just 8-10 weeks and it just goes to show if you are committed to the program, work hard and have a consistent diet the results will come. We are so proud of Larni and we thank her for giving us the following feedback from her journey with us so far.

What do you like most about your current program?

That it is fun but a good workout. The exercises are the same but its never boring, and I am pushed when needed. I love boxing, love having 2 different trainers.

What do you dislike about your program?

No dislikes, happy with what ever program is set for me.

What do you feel are your strengths and weaknesses?

Weaknesses – Diet, food, portion size and not enough water. Strengths – determination to succeed.

Please explain your trainers strengths and weaknesses and why you like/dislike training with them?

Love training with both trainers, both mix it up. Ashlee is a little bit more attentive.

What are your current goals?

Weight loss and improved fitness.

Do you feel you are working towards these goals?

Yes I do slowly but surely.

Do you have any new goals that you would like to work towards?

15kg Weight loss, 15Yr school reunion and getting fit enough to go jogging.

Any other improvements you have noticed?

Fitness has improved. Feeling better about me!

Any last words good or bad that you would like to give in regards to your personal training experience so far with JOLT Fitness?

I don’t have a bad word to say about JOLT Fitness. I have loved every minute of the process so far, the support provided is fantastic. The little gestures go a long way e.g. cards and face book posts.

Thankyou so much Larni for sharing with us and we are so lucky t o have you as part of our JOLT Family!

What do you enjoy most about Jolt Fitness Camps:

Great sense of team, the girls are all positive and supportive. There is also the oppurtunity to push your limits.

Would like on occasion some flexability work. Maybe yoga or pilates could be incorperated?

Brad is genuine and instinctive. He is not your typical trainer, he is able to identify how to best support and motivate individuals.

Time keeping goes astray sometimes!!

Gavin Bell gives us an insight into why he chose Jolt Fitness Camps and how his journey with Jolt Fitness has gone so far. Gavin is a camp regular and has committed to one of our 12 Month Contracts to make sure he is committed to staying on track.

Why did you choose Jolt Fitness Camps and how did you hear about us?

Good timing – After 22 years of doing basically no solid consistent exercise except cricket, my wife had set me the challenge of finding a serious fitness hobby before the new year began or else I was getting enroled in yoga classes. During the first week of 2011 I received a jolt fitness Boot camp flyer in the letterbox. So there it was – it was either Boot camp or Yoga. It was a tuff choice but in the end I had to let Yoga go.

Briefly explain your Goals for your Fitness Camp:

Increase fitness levels, trim down a few kilos to lose the muffin.

Did you feel you worked towards reaching these goals during camp?

Is that a rhetorical question?

What do you enjoy least about Jolt Fitness Camps:

Early mornings after late nights or bad nights with the kids

What do you enjoy most about Jolt Fitness Camps:

1) Feeling increased energy levels following a morning class.

2) Increased fitness

3) Fitting into pants and dropping a belt size.

4) Interaction with other co-campers

How do you feel mentally and physically since starting your Fitness Camp:

Much more energy and slightly smug with results

What would you like to see more of in Jolt Fitness Camps?

Beautiful sun rises back at the river.

Describe your Fitness Camp Trainer and what do you believe his/her strengths and weaknesses are:

Brad’s style is very positive & supportive. It is very much a coach/ mentor approach and he takes true interest in his campers well being. He is also very knowledgeable about all things associated with fitness and I am always amazed at how some of what seem to be so basic exercises have such good results

Nikki Boyd gives us an insight into why she chose Jolt Fitness Camps and how she has found her journey with Jolt Fitness so far. Nikki is becoming a Boot Camp regular and we miss her when she is not around!!

Why did you choose Jolt Fitness Camps:

I was looking for a new avenue for training as I had a gym membership that I wasn’t using. I saw the flyer at work and the location was perfect. After chatting to Brad I decided to give it a try as I needed motivation and inspiration and I also wanted to train where I could get to know people.

Briefly explain your Goals for your Fitness Camp:

To increase my fitness and energy levels. Toning and endurance. To keep active and have fun at the same time.

Do feel you are working towards reaching these goals:

YES!!!

What do you enjoy least about Jolt Fitness Camps:

Missing them! And the cold mornings can be a challenge… but nothing about the Camps specifically.

What do you enjoy most about Jolt Fitness Camps:

The structure allows for all levels of fitness to participate and still feel included. While the workout can be hard and challenging it is also fun!

I love the group on all days that I train. There are no egos, everyone is supportive of each other, like we are a big team.

How do you feel mentally and physically since starting your Fitness Camp:

I didn’t realise just how much I was missing training until I started! So much more energy and mental strength to deal with the things that life throws at you. Physically I feel not only stronger (lots more push ups on my toes than I could do before!!) but I also have much more energy and just feel fitter and stronger.

What would you like to see more of in Jolt Fitness Camps:

Ab work is good, and boxing.

How have you found your Fitness Camp Trainer and what do you believe his/her strengths and weaknesses are:

Brad has the ability to relate to everyone and their current level of ability, while still creating that personal challenge. I’ve done another bootcamp before and found that the expectation at the beginning was quite high and I burnt out easily in the first couple of weeks, feeling like it was a little beyond me. Great rapport and personality.

Weaknesses – time keeping haha..

Would to give a quick written testimonial about Jolt Fitness Boot Camps:

Bootcamp has been the best thing I have taken on this year. Despite loving exercise and understanding how good it is for you, for the last few years I have struggled to find something that motivated and inspired me. The sessions are challenging but designed for all abilities. The team spirit is really great, and makes it so much easier to get out of bed in the morning. I won’t be going back to my old gym membership any time soon! If you are thinking about giving it a try, just do it – you won’t regret it!

Another Women’s Only Boot Camp regular Susan Casar gives us an insight into what Boot Camp is like. Susan has come so far from being a little unsure about Boot Camp to now being one of the hardest workers there!!

Susan is getting married later this year and is using Boot Camp to get in to amazing shape for her wedding. Awesome job Susan you now rock Boot Camp!

Why did you choose Jolt Fitness Camps?

Jolt Fitness Camps are in a good location and the overall atmosphere is great as there is no intimidation by anyone in the group including the trainer Brad Hodgetts. Brad motivates the group to extend themselves beyond their own belief and always accommodates for each individuals fitness level.

Briefly explain your Goals for your Fitness Camp:

Due to medical reasons I was unable to participate in exercise for a number of years. Since I’ve been given the O.K to staring exercising again, I wanted to increase my fitness levels and achieve my goal weight to the level that I was previously.

Do you feel you are working towards reaching these goals?

Yes, thanks to the support and motivation of the girls in my group and the trainer.

What do you enjoy least about Jolt Fitness Camps?

Nothing really but if I had to say something get rid of the Burpees Exercise completely!!

What do you enjoy most about Jolt Fitness Camps?

The training sessions at Jolt Fitness Camps are not repetitive. I can say that each boot camp session that I have done comprises of diverse activities and exercise.

How do you feel mentally and physically since starting your Fitness Camp?

Since I have started boot camp, I am feeling stronger both mentally and physically and overall way more energized in my day to day life.

What would you like to see more of in Jolt Fitness Camps:

Competitions.

How have you found you’re Fitness Camp Trainer and what do you believe his/her strengths and weaknesses are?

Brad is very friendly / approachable. He genuinely seems to care about our individual fitness levels and pushes us beyond our limits to achieve our goals. At this stage I haven’t seen any weaknesses, maybe might find a few in the next boot camp that I do.

Would to give a quick written testimonial about Jolt Fitness Boot Camps:

If you’re serious about achieving weight loss and fitness goals then Jolt Fitness Boot Camp is the way to go. Speaking from experience I have previously joined the gym, Zumba etc but nothing has shown me more results then the Boot Camp.

Winter Boot Camp Series

There’s no two ways about it, winter in Melbourne is cold! When it comes to winter weather, there’s nothing better than curling up under the doona or laying in front of the fire while watching TV or reading a book with a nice hot chocolate. Sounds nice doesn’t it? There’s no doubt it’s probably what the majority of Maribyrnong / Moonee Valley residents will be doing over winter.

Do you know what else the majority of Maribyrnong / Moonee Valley residents will be doing over winter?

What are the best foods to eat just before a workout?

Slow burning or low glycaemic foods – that is foods that produce a gradual rise in blood sugar levels, these are the safest bet before working out at boot camp.

Remember that you can make a low glycaemic meal either by eating carbohydrate foods with with a low glycaemic index such as (apples, oranges, milk) or combining your carbohydrate source with a protein source such as (lean chicken, beef, fish)

Energy or meal replacement bar.

Hydration before training?

Do other people at Boot Camp seem to be fitter and go harder for longer?

What you eat several hours before you workout can dictate the energy you have for your Boot Camp workout and the weight you lose.

The carbohydrates in your food (pasta, bread, fruit etc) are converted to glycogen and stored in muscles. Just like filling your car with petrol before a journey, you need to ensure your muscles are well fuelled before a Boot Camp workout.

How can you tell if you’re eating enough Carbs?

A good guide is how energetic you feel during your training. Eat too little carbohydrate makes you feel fatigued and lethargic, a bit like a car going along with hardly any petrol. Upping your Carbs by as little as 50g can up your speed and endurance.

Eat too much on the other hand and you may feel heavy and more lethargic again, always listen to your body to get the right balance between too little and too much.

When is the best time to eat?

You should aim for a meal between 2 and 4 hours before Boot Camp (if its at night) with complex carbs like pasta or cereal. This should leave you feeling comfortable not full at training. Never eat a bit meal before training, as it will leave you heavy and sluggish.

Early morning Boot Camp?

If you wake up an hour or two before Boot Camp you can have a light snack like fruit, toast or yoghurt but if you are training within 30 minutes of waking up you may not feel like solid food and it could give you a stitch.

In this case try having water, juice or a meal replacement shake to minimise dehydration during Boot Camp. Then you can replace carbohydrate stores soon after training with a healthy breakfast.

5 Reasons you should eat a meal or snack before you Boot Camp workout:

1. Training on an empty stomach may make you lightheaded, weak and shakey. These are all signs that your blood sugar levels are low and will stop you from working out at you best level. Carbohydrates are our brains main source of fuel, if you brain isn’t getting its fuel you feel faint and lose concentration.

2. Training on full tank (glycogen) with steady blood sugar will allow you to train harder longer!

3. You will lose more weight (body fat), reduced energy means reduced intensity and fewer calories burned. On the other hand if you are full of energy you will have higher intensity and burn more calories!!

4. You can keep up with everyone else at Boot Camp.

5. Gives you the energy to get to Boot Camp, if you don’t eat for hours you will feel lethargic and not want to do anything! Eat a light snack a couple of hours before your workout and this will reduce the temptation to not train.
